Kyle Curry

Lead Pastor

Kyle Curry is the Lead Pastor of Legacy Church in Murfreesboro. Born and raised in Southern California, Kyle began walking seriously with the Lord in September 2007 and sensed a call to ministry soon after. He has served in vocational ministry since 2009, including youth, young adults, and church operations.

Kyle has a deep passion for teaching God’s Word, making disciples, and helping people grow in spiritual maturity. In 2018, the Lord placed church planting on his heart, and after a season of prayer and preparation, Kyle and his family moved to Murfreesboro in early 2020 to follow that calling. Today, he is grateful to shepherd Legacy Church and excited to see what the Lord continues to do in and through the church.

Kyle and his wife, Sarah—his high school sweetheart—have been married since 2007 and have three children: Bella, Lynlee, and Judah. Outside of ministry, Kyle loves sports, especially football, and enjoys coaching his kids. He also enjoys good coffee, and spending time with his family.

Stephen Chavez Matzel

Associate Pastor

Stephen Chavez Matzel serves as our Associate Pastor here at Legacy Church. Originally from Toronto, Canada, he grew up in Southern California as well as his wife Sheri who is a California native. Stephen and Sheri each having earned their Master’s Degree, have been married since 1990 and have three adult children and two grandchildren. Stephen and Sheri made the move to Murfreesboro in November 2020.  After feeling the Lord’s call to join Legacy Church, both have become an integral part of the church’s founding. Stephen and Sheri have served in various leadership capacities over the years and bring a wealth of wisdom and deep knowledge of what it means to serve our Lord Jesus and preach His Word, all while ministering to those around them.

John Emery

Children's Pastor

John Emery is our Children’s Pastor here at Legacy Church and has served in that capacity in various churches for over 20 years.  John was raised in East Tennessee and after serving in the US Navy on Whidbey Island, Washington, and living in Southern California for the past 13 years, John is happy to be back home in Tennessee.  John and Gina have been married since 2005 and have two adult children and six grandchildren.   Having a heart for our children, John has heeded his calling to lead these young souls to know, love and worship Jesus Christ.  Always serving with the children’s ministry has kept John young at heart and he is always ready to engage in conversation with the kids or simply let them know they are loved.  John enjoys doing yard work, traveling when he has time off, and is an avid fan of the Tennessee Titans.
